About Milos & Other Cyclades Islands

Where do you begin when talking about the Cyclades Islands? This is an island group that contains the ever popular Santorini & Mykonos but there is so much more to explore. Some of these islands include, Paros, Naxos, Milos, Ios, Folegandros, Sifnos, Serifos, Delos & Amorgos. Milos is a wonderful island that offers sandy white beaches and crystal blue waters. It is one of many to consider adding to your itinerary.

We haven’t even spent time in the other island groups, which include breathtaking  places. More to come on that soon.  For example, in the western part of Greece, in the Ionian Island Group, are the  beautirful islands of  Corfu, Zakynthos, Lefkada or the stunning islands  Northeast of Athens,  called Sporades Island Group and known for the island Skopelos,  that was showcased in the Movie Mamma Mia. Or we have not spent much time on the small set of islands, about one hour by ferry from Athens, called the Saronic Island Group, which includes one of my favorites, called Hydra- no cars are allowed.  And of course, there is the largest and most southern island of Greece called Crete. You could spend week on that island exploring something new every day! Each of these islands  have their own personality and style.  The experiences here are endless! The best news that if you still want to see Santorini (and everyone should!), you can make time by ferry to get to one of these other islands as it is very close and very accessible. Be sure to check out Ferry Hopper, for  those details. Some of our favorites include Paros Milos, and Naxos.

*A special thank you to Kyriakos Persidis who captures the beauty of the Greek islands and inspires us to explore. Click on the video link and subscribe to his channel by clicking the links under the video.

Check out the gorgeous white beach (among 72 beaches on the isand). This island has a lot of salt in the sand to offer a crystal white atomosphere. Also keep in mind that half of the island is not paved, so consider that when finding transportation.

Cyclades Islands Guide

As you begin planning which islands to visit in Greece it can be overwhelming! We suggest you take an island group and stick with that as ferries usually travel only within that group of islands. It is more challenging to go from one island in a group to another. Also determine whether you plan to fly or take a high speed ferry from Athens. Using some of the resources below, including ferry times between island, will help tremendously.

Depending on how long you have, we suggest 3 days on each island you choose (especially with travel time by ferry). we also suggest flying out of an island airport, like Santorini with a layover in London, for example to save time from returning to Athens.

We focus on the Cyclades Islands as it contains one of the most iconic in all of Greece, Santorini. If you have limited time, check out the islands and ferry times below to plan your itinerary. Taking these few steps are going to make your trip spectacular!
