About Isle of Skye
Isle of Skye is technically part of the Highlands but it deserves its own page to showcase the incredible landscape and incredible experiences. If you are planning a trip to the Highlands, we strongly consider adding some time at the Isle of Skye. We won’t have time to add in the many islands, like the Hebrides, but if you have the time and are adventurous, consider adding in the Hebride Islands, northwest of the Isle of Skye.
The Isle of Skye, or simply Skye (/skaɪ/; Scottish Gaelic: An t-Eilean Sgitheanach, is the largest and northernmost of the major islands in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. The island’s peninsulas radiate from a mountainous hub dominated by the Cuillin, the rocky slopes of which provide some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the country. (Wikipedia: Isle of Skye)
There are so many special places on the Isle of Skye. It should be on your bucket list if it is not already. Mealt Falls at Kilt Rock is breathtaking. It is named Kilt Rock for the pleated looking rock formation. Another popular spot is the fairy pools, a magical place with small pools at the base of Culling Mountain. Old Man of Storr is a rock formation that is widely recognized with vast vertical rocks jutting out of the land. The coast winds around the island and each bend offer a new view of the amazing coastline. It is advised to spend a few days discovering these natural areas. There are many opportunities to book a guide if you care to sit back and let the experts show you around. We suggest John Mackay Harbour from Exclusive Scottish Visits.
A special thank you to Aliaume Chapelle for an amazing showcase of the stunning landscape of the Isle of Skye. Be sure to check out the link below the video for other awe-inspiring videos.
