About Glencoe
Technically Glencoe is part of the Scottish Highlands, but we wanted to add a little about this lower area of the Highlands as it is so incredibly stunning. On your way to the Highlands, you may find yourself passing through this lovely valley. This is where you will find the iconic “Harry Potter” train, one of the highest mountains in the UK, Ben Nevis, and eastward toward the sea, charming towns like Oban.

My Google Maps gives you an idea of Glencoe’s position north of Glasgow, on the way to other locations in the Highlands such as Isle of Skye and Inverness. Glencoe is a valley at the foot of Ben Nevis mountain and is near so many great landmarks such as Inveraray Castle, the Jacobobite Train, and the hiking trails of Ben Nevis. Its beautiful landscape is breathtaking and worth a stop for a night in Fort William, or just passing through.

We always like a good pub or inn while visiting the UK. Some of the best food is in understated establishments. It is located right at the foot of Ben Nevis Inn offers incredible views of the mountain and water. The restaurant is one of the most highly rated in the area. We suggest listenting to his videos to inspire you before planning. He offers customized excursions for a day or more. We suggest even requesting guidance and a quote for part of your journey, as his incredible grasp of the history and culture will be most memorable. If you are planning on a stop in Fort William, we suggest asking John for a tour of Isle of Skye, Inverness, or other parts of the Highlands.
When you start to search for accomodation in the Highlands, you may find pods. These are great options for travel! they are new, simple, and affordable. Often times the host will provide breakfast and a meeting area to mingle with others. Many also offer great views. Be sure to consider as an alternative. Local Spotlight
Located within the awe-inspiring Lochaber Geopark in the Highlands, the deep valley and towering mountains of Glen Coe were carved out centuries ago by icy glaciers and volcanic explosions. Glencoe village is picturesquely located between the banks of Loch Leven and the mouth of the famous glen, making it the perfect base for exploring the area. Glenfinnan Viaduct
This Viaduct was made more famous by The Harry Potter Movies. It is originally called the Jacobite Line and if you refer to it as the Harry Potter train you might get a dirty look. Take your time and explore the natural wonders of Lochaber, breathe the fresh mountain air and marvel at beautiful beaches. You could climb Britain’s highest mountain Ben Nevis, explore the wilds of West Highland Peninsulas, or the cinematic landscapes of Glencoe.
