The main motorway, A1, connects Florence with Bologna and Milano in the North and Rome and Naples in the South. The climate is temperate but rather variable, with breezy winters and hot summers.

Florence lies in Tuscany which spans from Siena in the south to Luca and Pisa in the west. The Chianti area, between Florence and Siena, is one of the most beautiful countrysides in Italy and a famous wine production area. The main sites in Florence include the Duomo (Santa Maria del Fiore) and amazing museums, like the Academia, where you can see Michaelangelo’s David and the Uffuzi. The city sites on the Arno with one of the most famous bridges, the Ponte Vecchio. For miles you can see the world’s largest masonry dome and a cathedral that contains art from over 600 years. Filippo Brunelleschi, a goldsmith and clockmaker, solved this figured out how to finish the dome in the 15th century. Four hundred sixty three steps were included to allow access to the top of the dome.  You can climb to the top of the dome or the bell tower for the best panoramic view of Florence.

There are hundreds of fabulous restaurants in Florence. You can spend hours going through all of the reviews on Tripadvisor. Trattoria ZaZa is a must. The ambiance, design, alone will draw you in, but the food will make this your new favorite! We went here in 2019 and still talk about it. Each room has a historical meaning. Of course the Florentine Steak is their speciality, but the pasta and wine are incredible as well.

We are still dreaming of this incredible Schiaciatta Sandwich. The homemade bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. And the toppings all fresh! Great to add Avacado Cream or Eggplant. It cannot be beat. There is another more famous sandwich spot in town but many say this is even better and the lines are not as long! Rated #5 on Tripadvsior in Florence!

There are a few locations but the one located near the Ponte Vecchio is very special. Not only can you stop and get a gelato but you can take a moment to take in the River Arno. This is the best gelato in Florence because they keep it in metal bins with a lid. We were told that if it is steeped high to stay away.

We truly enjoyed our day with MariLisa. We walked through the city, learning about history and architecture while stopping in local shops and an Osteria to taste their specialities. A tour like this is great to do when you arrive because you can learn about the main attractions while learning the best places to eat in the city!

The Central Market (Mercado Centrale) in Florence is a great place to visit. Not only will you find leather vendors and other stalls just outside, you will find local fruit, vegetables, flowers, etc, you wil find other vendors. Try the Pistachio Cream and the Cantucci (Biscotti) and if you have time head upstairs for a full array of restaurant options.

If you are wondering if it is worth seeing Micheal Angelo's David at the Academia Gallery, we say "yes"! It is not a big museum and it can be visited in about 1 hour and 30 minutes. But word of advice, visit the official site to sign up for a specified time. Once you see this remarkable work of art in person, you will tell everyone that visits Florence to make it part of their itinerary.

This lovely boutique hotel is close to the train station and Santa Maria del Fiore Church. The view from the rooftop bar and seating area is stunning, especially n the evening. This hotel was a former convent, so there is plenty of space, including a beautiful courtyard. And we have to mention that the breakfast was one of the best we experienced during our entire trip to Italy.

This apartment is a gem! We stayed here in 2019 and we were amazed as it looks better than the pictures. The apartment is right in the center of Florence and walking distance to the train and most landmarks. The balcony overlooks the duomo, which is breathtaking. It sleeps 2-8 and is one of the most affordable places you will find.
