Welcome to Ancona
About Ancona
Le Marche Region is located in central Italy, with the Adriatic Sea to the east. It comprises the provinces of Ancona, Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata, and Pesaro and Urbino. The landscape is quite hilly with many river valleys and the Apennine Mountains to the south.
We love the region of Italy as we were introduced to it when Hannah studied abroad in the town of Ancona. There is something so authentic and special about this area. We have visited twice and appreciate the local cuisine and the serene landscape. The rolling hills and miles of sunflowers are breathtaking. We found an amazing Bed and Breakfast, L’Antinguo Granaro, not far from Ancona. It was a true place for respite and a great way to see Italy in its most authentic form.
They call Le Marche, the new Tuscany. So in the next few years, more travelers are going to find out this best-kept secret. And we don’t mind sharing as well as it is a very special place to visit.

This is our absolute favorite restaurant in Italy. We are not sure if it is becuase of its authenticy or the idillic location of Ancona. The town is very walkable and worth a trip if you are planning to visit La Marche region. We have fond memories of this area.
Portonovo Beach is a secluded specatular beach about 20 minutes from Ancona. It is a great day trip as there are many seaside restaurants nearby. Le Marche is a great destination as there are limited crowds, charming towns, great food and wine, and a breathtaking coastline. It is also one of the most affordable parts of Italy as well. The Italian on Tour is a great blog that can share more about the many wonderful beaches in the region. Be sure to Click Explore More to find out.
Chantelle and Giovanni are locals from Le Marche, interviewed in the podcast They are passionate about sharing their beautiful part of Italy with others. Also check out Umbria to the north and Abruzzo to the south.
We stayed here in 2015 and still talk about the amazing pool, peaceful surroundings and lovely farm house. The owners are absolutlely wonderful and can cook for you based on your request. It is only about 20 minutes from the town of Ancona. For the most authentic, peaceful experience in Italy, we recommend looking deeper into Le Marche Region as it has so much to offer.
