Welcome to Salzburg!

About Salzburg

Salzburg, the “Salt Castle,” is a jewel of Austria, where Baroque elegance meets Alpine beauty. Founded in 696 on the site of the Roman town of Iuvavum, Salzburg grew rich from salt, trade, and gold. The stunning Hohensalzburg Fortress, towering over the city since the 11th century, and the ornate churches built during the 17th-century Counter-Reformation still shape its skyline.

Its Altstadt (Old Town) is one of the best-preserved Baroque city centers north of the Alps and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can wander cobblestone lanes, explore vibrant markets, and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Salzburg is also the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and music still fills its streets, from summer festivals to intimate chamber concerts.

Despite heavy bombing in World War II, much of Salzburg’s charm survived. Today, it blends centuries-old history with lively cafés, bustling university life, and easy access to the Alps, making it the perfect base for both cultural discovery and outdoor adventure.
