About the Wild Atlantic Way
The Wild Atlantic Way (Irish: Slí an Atlantaigh Fhiáin) is a tourism trail on the west coast, and on parts of the north and south coasts, of Ireland. The 2,500 km [1] (1,553 mile) driving route passes through nine counties and three provinces, stretching from County Donegal’s Inishowen Peninsula in Ulster to Kinsale, County Cork, in Munster, on the Celtic Sea coast. It is the longest continuous coastal route in the world.
We focus on Donegal, Galway, and Kerry on other pages as they are truly part of the Wild Atlantic Way. On this page, we focus on the mid section of the trail, County Clare & Limerick. County Clare, of course is known for the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren, an archeological area of limestone also located along the coast. We also point out a little about Limerick as the Shannon Aireport is located in this area. Besides that, we stayed in one of the best AirBNBs of our life in a town called Rathkeale and had one of the bet meals in the nearby village of Adare. Adare is lined with thatched roof houses and has the charm of a small village. The Adare Manor is a breathtaking country home on the river. They do offer accommodation and serve dinner in their restaurant.

There are so many amazing pubs along the Wild Atlantic Way. We suggest Tripadvisor as they will shed light on the service. We never had a bad meal at a pub, but we did check ahead of time as there are so many in each village. We absolutely loved this pub for the food and beer. They also have musicians in to play some traditional music.
This is the most iconic landmark of Ireland. There is nothing like the view. There is an incredible historic tower and a newer visitors center. It truly is a site to see if you are on the west coast of Ireland. It is only a little over an hour from the Shannon airport. And if you are staying in Dublin or Galway you can catch a day tour here. Click the title to learn about tickets, hours of operation, etc. and Click Explore More for other options in the area.
We stayed here in 2017 and it really was one of the most amazing AirBNB experiences we have had. Paula, the host was so warm and hospitable. After a day out in the rain, we were welcomed with tea and scones. We could have sat around the table for hours just learning more about her family and the horse stables. If you are in western Ireland, DO NOT miss the opportunity to stay at this lovely country house!
